The 95 Theses of Covenant Finance
Nailed to the Digital Door of the Modern Church of Crypto
Pillar: Covenant Finance (Pillar 1) | Category: Concept | Anno Domini 2025
"Out of love for the truth and a desire to bring it to light, the following propositions on the failures of 'trustless' finance and the foundation of Covenant Finance will be debated and declared."
For too long, the cryptocurrency movement has operated under hollow slogans that sound revolutionary but deliver tyranny. "Code is Law." "Trustless Systems." "Be Your Own Bank." These phrases have become weapons of manipulation, obscuring the truth and enslaving those who seek freedom.
The 95 Theses of Covenant Finance is a declaration against these hollow promises and a foundation for true economic sovereignty rooted in covenant principles. It stands in the tradition of Martin Luther's 95 Theses, which sparked the Protestant Reformation by exposing the corruption of indulgences and calling the church back to scriptural truth. We are doing the same for the modern church of crypto.
Each thesis follows a consistent pattern: the hollow slogan, the lie beneath it, the covenant truth that replaces it, and the result when covenant truth is applied.
Part I: Foundation Theses (1–15) — The Philosophical Bankruptcy of Modern Crypto
Thesis #1 — "Code is Law"
- The Lie: Algorithmic output constitutes ultimate moral and legal authority, replacing divine and natural law.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant is Law." Code is merely a tool for enforcement; true law flows from eternal principles of righteousness and relational obligations.
- The Result: Technology returns to its proper role as servant rather than master, judged by higher standards of justice.
Thesis #2 — "Trustless Systems"
- The Lie: The ideal human interaction requires no faith in any person or institution, only in mathematical outputs.
- The Covenant Truth: "Trust-Worthy Systems." The goal is verifiable integrity and accountability within community frameworks, not the elimination of relational bonds.
- The Result: Systems designed for verification without compassion become tyrannical; systems built on covenantal trust create true security.
Thesis #3 — "Decentralization"
- The Lie: Power should be distributed so that no person or group can exercise authority over others.
- The Covenant Truth: "Distributed Authority Under Common Law." Authority is properly delegated under shared transcendent principles, not eliminated.
- The Result: Prevents both tyranny and anarchy by creating accountable leadership under agreed-upon standards.
Thesis #4 — "Financial Sovereignty"
- The Lie: Absolute personal autonomy with no obligations to community or higher purpose defines true freedom.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Stewardship." Sovereignty is the God-given authority to manage resources responsibly within a framework of relational obligations.
- The Result: Wealth becomes a tool for communal flourishing rather than a weapon for isolated self-interest.
Thesis #5 — "Be Your Own Bank"
- The Lie: Individual technical competence should be the sole determinant of financial security, with failure bearing total personal consequences.
- The Covenant Truth: "Be a Faithful Steward in a Covenant Community." Security is found in mutual aid, accountability, and shared wisdom, not in isolated self-reliance.
- The Result: Creates a financial system with both freedom and safeguards, recognizing human fallibility.
Thesis #6 — "Privacy"
- The Lie: Total secrecy and anonymity are fundamental rights, with no obligation to transparency.
- The Covenant Truth: "Prudence and Discernment within Accountability." Privacy from malicious actors is protected, while transparency to legitimate covenant authority is maintained.
- The Result: Prevents both surveillance overreach and the lawlessness enabled by complete anonymity.
Thesis #7 — "Immutability"
- The Lie: A transaction record that can never be altered is the highest form of truth.
- The Covenant Truth: "Justice Requires the Possibility of Mercy." A truly just system must allow for rectification of errors, forgiveness of debts, and restoration of the repentant.
- The Result: A ledger that serves humanity's need for grace, not one that enslaves it to permanent, unforgiving records.
Thesis #8 — "Permissionless"
- The Lie: No one should have the authority to prevent any voluntary interaction or transaction.
- The Covenant Truth: "Permission Based on Shared Standards." A healthy community has gates and guards to keep out what is harmful, based on a shared covenant.
- The Result: Prevents the community from being exploited by bad actors while preserving freedom for those who abide by the common good.
Thesis #9 — "Censorship-Resistance"
- The Lie: All information and transactions should flow without any interference or judgment.
- The Covenant Truth: "Discernment and Curated Spaces." A community has both the right and the responsibility to filter out falsehood and malice to protect its members.
- The Result: Fosters healthy, truthful discourse instead of a chaotic free-for-all where lies and abuse thrive.
Thesis #10 — "The Market Decides"
- The Lie: Price action and speculation are the ultimate measures of value and truth.
- The Covenant Truth: "Value is Rooted in Reality and Righteousness." The worth of a thing is determined by its alignment with truth and its contribution to human flourishing, not by speculative manias.
- The Result: Prevents the economy from devolving into a casino detached from real-world value and virtue.
Thesis #11 — "Innovation at Any Cost"
- The Lie: Technological progress is an inherent good that should not be hindered by ethical considerations.
- The Covenant Truth: "Wisdom Directs Innovation." Technology must be developed and applied under the guidance of moral principles.
- The Result: Ensures new tools serve humanity rather than enslave or corrupt it.
Thesis #12 — "Exit, Don't Voice"
- The Lie: If you disagree with a community or protocol, your only option is to leave and start your own.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Requires Commitment and Constructive Voice." Healthy communities are built on members working through disagreements to achieve higher unity.
- The Result: Builds resilient, mature communities instead of endless, fragmented forks.
Thesis #13 — "Math is Neutral"
- The Lie: Mathematics and algorithms are impartial tools with no inherent moral valence.
- The Covenant Truth: "Tools are Shaped by the Hands That Wield Them." The application of math is never neutral; it is always directed by a human will and a set of values.
- The Result: Forces builders to take moral responsibility for the systems they create.
Thesis #14 — "Open Source is Enough"
- The Lie: Making code publicly viewable automatically ensures transparency, accountability, and security.
- The Covenant Truth: "Open Source Without a Moral Compass is a Map to Nowhere." Code must be paired with a covenant that defines its righteous use and governance.
- The Result: Prevents powerful tools from being co-opted for evil purposes by malicious actors.
Thesis #15 — "Apolitical Technology"
- The Lie: Technology exists outside of cultural, social, and political realities.
- The Covenant Truth: "All Technology is Political Because It Shapes Human Relations." To build a tool is to make a claim about how people should interact.
- The Result: Forces an honest conversation about the kind of world we are building, preventing the stealthy imposition of a worldview.
Part II: Language Theses (16–30) — Cleansing the Corrupted Definitions
Thesis #16 — "Community"
- The Lie: A group of people who share a common interest in a token or protocol constitutes a community.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Brotherhood." True community is formed by shared commitments, mutual obligations, and genuine care for one another's flourishing.
- The Result: Replaces the shallow tribalism of token-holding and restores the power of genuine, committed relationship.
Thesis #17 — "Governance"
- The Lie: Decision-making is reduced to coin-voting, where wealth equals influence.
- The Covenant Truth: "Righteous Rule." Governance is the art of applying wisdom and justice for the common good, recognizing that not all wisdom is captured by token quantity.
- The Result: Prevents plutocracy and ensures leadership is based on character and competence, not merely capital.
Thesis #18 — "Freedom"
- The Lie: Freedom is the absence of all constraint and the ability to do whatever one desires.
- The Covenant Truth: "Liberty Under Law." True freedom is the ability to do what is right and good within the boundaries of righteous order.
- The Result: Delivers humanity from the slavery of its own destructive passions and creates the conditions for true flourishing.
Thesis #19 — "Consensus"
- The Lie: Agreement among network participants is a purely technical mechanism for validating transactions.
- The Covenant Truth: "Moral Agreement." True consensus is the meeting of minds and wills around shared principles and truths, not just cryptographic verification.
- The Result: Aligns the community around a common vision of the good, rather than mere transactional synchrony.
Thesis #20 — "Utility"
- The Lie: A token's value is derived solely from its functional use within a specific protocol or application.
- The Covenant Truth: "Inherent Worth." Value is grounded in a token's representation of real-world assets, productive capacity, or its role in a covenant community, not merely speculative functionality.
- The Result: Connects the digital economy to tangible reality and virtue, preventing empty speculation.
Thesis #21 — "Adoption"
- The Lie: The goal is to onboard as many users as possible, regardless of their values or intentions.
- The Covenant Truth: "Disciple-Making." The goal is to invite people into a covenant way of life, teaching them to observe all that has been commanded.
- The Result: Builds a strong, committed culture rather than a vast, uncommitted user base vulnerable to corruption.
Thesis #22 — "Inclusion"
- The Lie: All ideas, behaviors, and participants must be accepted without judgment.
- The Covenant Truth: "Discernment and Boundaries." A healthy community must have standards and be willing to exclude what is destructive to the common good.
- The Result: Protects the integrity and mission of the community from being diluted or subverted.
Thesis #23 — "Disruption"
- The Lie: Breaking existing systems is inherently virtuous, regardless of what replaces them.
- The Covenant Truth: "Constructive Reformation." Change must be guided by a vision of a better order, not mere destruction for its own sake.
- The Result: Prevents nihilistic chaos and ensures that new systems are improvements over the old.
Thesis #24 — "Innovation"
- The Lie: Novelty and technical advancement are ends in themselves.
- The Covenant Truth: "Innovation in Service of Flourishing." New tools and methods are only valuable if they contribute to human well-being and righteous order.
- The Result: Ends the worship of the new and demands that progress be measured by its fruits.
Thesis #25 — "Transparency"
- The Lie: All information should be publicly visible at all times.
- The Covenant Truth: "Appropriate Disclosure." Transparency is a tool for accountability, not an absolute principle. Some information must be protected for the sake of security and prudence.
- The Result: Balances the need for accountability with the need for wisdom in what is revealed and when.
Thesis #26 — "Meritocracy"
- The Lie: Success in the system is purely a function of individual talent and effort.
- The Covenant Truth: "Grace and Stewardship." All gifts and opportunities are ultimately from God, and success carries the obligation to serve others.
- The Result: Prevents pride and creates a culture of gratitude and generosity.
Thesis #27 — "Competition"
- The Lie: Ruthless rivalry is the engine of progress and the natural state of human interaction.
- The Covenant Truth: "Cooperative Flourishing." Healthy competition exists within a framework of mutual respect and shared goals, not zero-sum warfare.
- The Result: Fosters innovation without destroying community bonds.
Thesis #28 — "Efficiency"
- The Lie: The fastest, cheapest, and most automated solution is always the best.
- The Covenant Truth: "Wisdom Over Speed." Efficiency must be balanced with justice, beauty, and human dignity.
- The Result: Prevents the dehumanization that comes from treating people as mere inputs in an optimization problem.
Thesis #29 — "Scalability"
- The Lie: A system's value is determined by its ability to grow infinitely without limits.
- The Covenant Truth: "Right-Sized Flourishing." The goal is not infinite scale but optimal health — the right size for the right purpose, serving the right community.
- The Result: Prevents the pathological growth that destroys the very communities it claims to serve.
Thesis #30 — "Network Effects"
- The Lie: A network's value is purely a function of the number of participants.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Density." The value of a network is determined by the depth of commitment and the quality of relationships within it, not merely its size.
- The Result: Prioritizes depth over breadth and builds communities that are resilient rather than merely large.
Part III: Technical Theses (31–45) — Exposing the False Idols of Technique
Thesis #31 — "Smart Contracts"
- The Lie: Self-executing code can replace the need for trust, wisdom, and relational judgment in agreements.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Agreements." Code can automate the mechanical execution of an agreement, but the spirit of the covenant requires ongoing wisdom and relationship.
- The Result: Prevents the hardening of agreements into inhuman, unbreakable cages and allows for the application of grace.
Thesis #32 — "Proof of Work"
- The Lie: Computational expenditure is the only legitimate basis for consensus and security.
- The Covenant Truth: "Proof of Covenant." Legitimate authority is established through demonstrated faithfulness, not merely through resource expenditure.
- The Result: Opens the door to consensus mechanisms grounded in character and commitment, not just computation.
Thesis #33 — "Proof of Stake"
- The Lie: Wealth is the appropriate basis for authority and security in a network.
- The Covenant Truth: "Proof of Faithfulness." Authority is earned through demonstrated trustworthiness and service, not merely through capital accumulation.
- The Result: Prevents plutocracy from being baked into the protocol layer and opens the door to covenant-based governance.
Thesis #34 — "Oracles"
- The Lie: External data can be fed into smart contracts without introducing trust assumptions.
- The Covenant Truth: "Witnesses." All external information requires trusted witnesses whose integrity can be verified and whose testimony can be challenged.
- The Result: Restores the biblical concept of witness and testimony to the technical architecture of decentralized systems.
Thesis #35 — "Layer 2"
- The Lie: Scalability problems can be solved by building more complex technical layers on top of a flawed foundation.
- The Covenant Truth: "Build on Rock, Not Sand." Complexity built on a flawed foundation multiplies the flaws. The foundation must be right before the building can be trusted.
- The Result: Demands that foundational principles be sound before scaling, rather than papering over problems with technical complexity.
Thesis #36 — "Interoperability"
- The Lie: All chains and protocols should be able to communicate freely, regardless of their values or governance.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Compatibility." True interoperability requires shared principles, not just shared technical standards. Not all protocols should be connected.
- The Result: Prevents the contamination of righteous systems by connecting them to corrupt ones.
Thesis #37 — "Composability"
- The Lie: Any protocol can be combined with any other protocol to create new financial instruments.
- The Covenant Truth: "Righteous Assembly." Components must be evaluated for their individual integrity before being combined. Composing corrupt elements creates compounded corruption.
- The Result: Demands that each building block be sound before it is used to construct larger systems.
Thesis #38 — "Maximal Extractable Value (MEV)"
- The Lie: Miners and validators are entitled to extract maximum value from transaction ordering.
- The Covenant Truth: "Just Compensation." Those who provide services are entitled to fair payment, not to exploit their position for maximum extraction at the expense of others.
- The Result: Replaces predatory extraction with fair service and covenant stewardship.
Thesis #39 — "Atomic Swaps"
- The Lie: Trustless exchange between parties requires no relational context or accountability.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Exchange." Even instantaneous exchanges occur within a relational context that shapes their meaning and their justice.
- The Result: Prevents the reduction of all exchange to pure mechanism and preserves the relational dimension of trade.
Thesis #40 — "Zero-Knowledge Proofs"
- The Lie: Mathematical proofs can provide perfect privacy without any relational accountability.
- The Covenant Truth: "Prudent Disclosure." Privacy tools are legitimate when used to protect from malicious actors, but must not be used to evade legitimate covenant accountability.
- The Result: Enables privacy without enabling lawlessness, by grounding the use of privacy tools in covenant principles.
Thesis #41 — "Sharding"
- The Lie: Dividing a blockchain into parallel processing chains solves the fundamental tension between security, decentralization, and scalability.
- The Covenant Truth: "Distributed Responsibility." Dividing responsibility requires clear lines of accountability and covenant between the shards, not just technical coordination.
- The Result: Ensures that technical distribution is matched by relational and governance distribution.
Thesis #42 — "Staking"
- The Lie: Locking up capital to secure a network is a purely technical act with no moral dimension.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Commitment." Staking is a form of pledge — a commitment of resources in service of a community's security and well-being.
- The Result: Restores the moral dimension of financial commitment and creates genuine skin-in-the-game accountability.
Thesis #43 — "Finality"
- The Lie: Irreversible transaction settlement is the highest form of financial justice.

- The Result: Prevents the hardening of financial systems into instruments of permanent punishment.
Thesis #44 — "Slashing"
- The Lie: Automatic punishment for protocol violations is sufficient to ensure honest behavior.
- The Covenant Truth: "Restorative Justice." Punishment must be proportionate, purposeful, and oriented toward restoration, not merely deterrence.
- The Result: Prevents the creation of punitive systems that destroy rather than correct and restore.
Thesis #45 — "The Merge"
- The Lie: Technical upgrades to a protocol can be accomplished without governance crises or community fractures.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Renewal." Significant changes to shared systems require explicit covenant renewal — a re-commitment by all parties to the new terms.
- The Result: Prevents the imposition of changes on communities without their genuine consent and participation.
Part IV: Economic Theses (46–60) — Unmasking Financial Manipulation
Thesis #46 — "Sound Money"
- The Lie: A fixed supply and algorithmic issuance schedule constitute sound money.
- The Covenant Truth: "Just Weights and Measures." Sound money requires not just scarcity but justice — honest representation of value and protection from manipulation.
- The Result: Exposes the ways in which even "sound money" can be manipulated by those who control its distribution and narrative.
Thesis #47 — "Store of Value"
- The Lie: The primary purpose of money is to preserve purchasing power over time.

- The Result: Shifts the focus from hoarding to productive deployment of resources for communal flourishing.
Thesis #48 — "Number Go Up"
- The Lie: Rising token prices are the primary measure of a project's success and value.
- The Covenant Truth: "Fruit, Not Price." The measure of a project's value is its contribution to human flourishing and covenant faithfulness, not its speculative price.
- The Result: Ends the idolatry of price and demands that projects be evaluated by their actual impact.
Thesis #49 — "Liquidity"
- The Lie: The ability to instantly convert any asset to any other asset at any time is an unqualified good.
- The Covenant Truth: "Committed Capital." Some forms of commitment require illiquidity — the willingness to be bound to a course of action for a season.
- The Result: Restores the value of patient, committed investment over speculative, liquid trading.
Thesis #50 — "Market Making"
- The Lie: Providing liquidity to markets is a purely technical service with no moral dimension.

Thesis #56 — "Liquidation"
- The Lie: Automatic liquidation of undercollateralized positions is a neutral, necessary feature of financial systems.

- The Result: Replaces the idolatry of absolute property rights with the covenant responsibility of faithful stewardship.
Thesis #88 — "Code is Law" (Revisited)
- The Lie: The second time this is asserted, it is even more dangerous — because now it is asserted by those who have seen the failures of the first assertion and still insist on it.

- The Result: Closes the loop on the foundational error of the crypto movement and points toward the only true foundation for just systems.
Thesis #89 — "Immutable Ledger" (Revisited)
- The Lie: The permanence of the blockchain record is the highest form of truth and justice.
- The Covenant Truth: "Living Covenant." Truth is not captured in a static record but in an ongoing relationship between persons who are accountable to one another and to God.
- The Result: Prevents the idolatry of the ledger and restores the primacy of living covenant relationship.
Thesis #90 — "Sovereign Individual"
- The Lie: The highest human ideal is the fully autonomous individual, free from all external obligations and dependencies.
- The Covenant Truth: "Covenant Person." The fullest expression of human dignity is the person in covenant — bound to God, to family, to community, and to righteous law.
- The Result: Replaces the lonely idol of the sovereign individual with the rich reality of the covenant person.
Part VII: Covenant Theses (91–95) — The Way Forward
Thesis #91 — "The Great Commission of Crypto"
- The Lie: The goal is to "orange pill" as many people as possible into crypto adoption.
- The Covenant Truth: "The Digital Great Commission." The goal is to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that Christ has commanded, using technology as a tool for that mission.
- The Result: Aligns the technological project with the ultimate purpose of glorifying God and advancing His kingdom.
Thesis #92 — "Technology as Savior"
- The Lie: The right code, the right protocol, or the right innovation will save humanity.
- The Covenant Truth: "Christ Alone Saves." Technology is a tool that can serve good or evil. Only Jesus Christ can redeem and restore humanity.
- The Result: Prevents the idolatry of technology and keeps our ultimate hope rightly placed.
Thesis #93 — "The Primacy of the Local"
- The Lie: Digital global communities can replace the need for physical, local embodiment.
- The Covenant Truth: "Digital Serves Local." Digital tools exist to strengthen families, churches, and neighborhoods — the fundamental cells of society. The screen must never supersede the face-to-face.
- The Result: Prevents the atrophy of local community and ensures technology serves human relationship rather than replacing it.
Thesis #94 — "The Law of the Covenant"
- The Lie: Smart contracts and algorithms can automate and enforce complex human agreements without need for wisdom.
- The Covenant Truth: "The Spirit Gives Life." The letter of the code kills, but the Spirit gives life. All agreements must be governed by the spirit of the covenant, which requires wisdom, mercy, and ongoing relationship.
- The Result: Prevents the hardening of agreements into inhuman, unbreakable cages and allows for the application of grace and wisdom in every situation.
Thesis #95 — "In God We Trust"
- The Lie: "In code we trust" is the final declaration of independence from flawed human institutions.
- The Covenant Truth: "In God We Trust." Our final declaration is not of independence, but of dependence — on God alone. All our systems, codes, and communities are subject to His rule and righteous judgment. We are not our own saviors.
- The Result: Humility replaces hubris. The entire technological project is placed under the authority of the One who alone can truly liberate. This is the foundation upon which a truly free and righteous digital civilization can be built.
THE 95 THESES ARE COMPLETE.
Soli Deo Gloria
Anno Domini 2025 — Liberty Through Truth Foundation
Published by Liberty Through Truth Foundation under the NationOS Covenant Journal. The full document is available for download in the Documents library. This manifesto stands on the shoulders of Martin Luther's 95 Theses, which sparked the Protestant Reformation by exposing the corruption of indulgences and calling the church back to scriptural truth. We are doing the same for the modern church of crypto.
